Grimaud Hybrid Pekin Ducklings Details

Hatching year-round.

A hybrid of two strains of Pekin ducks from the French poultry breeder Grimaud Freres, the Grimaud Hybrid Pekin duck is a fast-growing duck that produces good meat characteristics. They will make an excellent addition to any duck producer's flock.

Production: These ducks reach maturity quickly, around 7 pounds at 41 days, 8 pounds at 49 days, with a high feed conversion ratio of 2.29 and the breast making up approximately 25% of the body weight. These birds also lay large numbers of eggs, which hatch at 28 days of incubation, making them a good dual-purpose breed.

Temperament: Pekin ducks have a friendly but slightly nervous temperament. They make good pets and are easy to handle, but should not be chased, as they become stressed easily.

History: Pekin ducks were first imported from China in 1873, and due to their large size and appearance, were at first mistaken for small geese. Although few ducks survived the initial trips from China, more birds were imported over time, and they rapidly gained popularity in North America. Not recognized by the APA.
